The University of Toronto’s Heather Ross, one of Canada’s top cardiologists, is seeking to miniaturize life-saving medical equipment so that it fits easily into a patient’s pocket – or around their wrist. She and a team of other U of T Faculty of Medicine researchers – based at the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research and University Health Network (UHN) – will work with tech giant Apple this fall to test whether the new Apple Watch Series 6 and its blood oxygen sensor can collect data to help manage heart failure.
A research and habitat recovery project led by a University of Toronto researcher aims to help fish and freshwater mussel species that are currently at risk of going extinct. The project, which received a $1.8 million grant from the federal government, will target 13 fish and eight freshwater mussel species that are currently at risk in the lower Great Lakes watershed.
In one case, U of T researchers determined their "bus bridging" could have reduced passenger delays following a disruption to Toronto's subway system by 50 per cent (photo by Aaron Lynett/Toronto Star via Getty Images) It’s a phrase Toronto subway riders hear all too often: “Shuttle buses are on the way.” Service disruptions are a fact of life for rail transit systems around the world.
