The Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade introduced legislation earlier this week in response to COVID-19's negative effects on the province's economy. The COVID-19 Economic Recovery Act aims at jump-starting important infrastructure projects, promoting investment, creating jobs, and helping businesses.
"According to Statistics Canada, employment in Ontario increased by 377,900 in June, including an increase of 66,200 manufacturing jobs," Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli said in a statement. "But the job numbers are much more than a statistic, they represent, families, business owners and workers back at work and contributing to Ontario's economic recovery."
Fedeli went on to say that Ontario residents should help support their local economies by promoting and purchasing products made in Ontario as the government works toward Stage 3 of reopening.
"Our government intends to stand shoulder to shoulder with those who are struggling as a result of this global pandemic," Fedeli said in the release.
