George Brown College issued the following announcement on Sept. 29.
A member of the George Brown College community who was on campus recently has tested positive for COVID-19.
This individual was at 300 Adelaide St. E. at our St. James Campus on Friday, September 25 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. For privacy reasons, we cannot disclose their name, but they are now self-isolating. We wish them a speedy and full recovery.
George Brown is working with Toronto Public Health to assist them with contact tracing. Due to our extensive health and safety protocols on campus we anticipate close contacts will be minimal. But members of the college community who were in direct contact with the individual, and are considered high risk, will be contacted by Public Health. All campus labs and buildings are deep cleaned and sanitized nightly. Anywhere the individual may have been on campus has been disinfected.
Although it is not surprising to have a confirmed case in a community as large as ours, we know this news is concerning. The health and safety of George Brown students and employees remains our top priority, and we have put in place many precautionary measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. These include online delivery of programs and services, limiting the number of people on campus, mandatory COVID-19 awareness training and health screening for anyone entering college buildings, a mandatory mask policy, physical distancing, and enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
