The Ontario Chamber of Commerce is applauding the Ontario Government's recent appointment of three "youth advisors" in its efforts to expand opportunities for young people to learn about skilled trades careers.
According to an Aug. 27 release from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the government's move comes at a time when the province is experiencing a "skills mismatch" in the skilled trades area, especially during the pandemic recovery.
"This is welcome news for youth, business and the economic prosperity of our province," Ontario Chamber president and CEO Rocco Rossi said in a statement. “Access to talent will be especially important post-pandemic, as Ontario invests in major infrastructure and other big projects to support economic recovery.”
Rossi went on to state that young people in Ontario need to be provided "tools and opportunities" to "successfully navigate" the labour market.
"Students and their parents are often unaware of how lucrative and rewarding a career in trades can be," Rossi said in the release.
