George Brown College issued the following announcement on Aug. 5.
George Brown College will launch a new online certificate in service robotics in September 2020 to address the growing demand for skilled professionals as this industry continues to expand and innovate amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Service Robotics certificate program will be offered through George Brown Continuing Education and was co-developed by George Brown and robotics solution provider Global DWS. The college announced a partnership with Global DWS in 2019, which saw the use of a service robot on campus to explore how this technology can add value to students and employees and the impact it will have on the future of work.
“There is tremendous potential for service robots to improve experiences and augment the workforce in a wide range of industries, from health care to hospitality,” says Rick Huijbregts, George Brown’s Vice-President, Strategy and Innovation. “The demand for this type of technology is growing and the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the possibilities for service robots in frontline sectors.”
This four-course program guides students through the growth and development of the service robotics industry, as well as typical applications, current and future market trends, and the impact this technology will have on organizations and customers. The first course in the program is Service Robotics 1: Fundamentals.
