The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB)'s newly launched weekly Small Business Recovery Dashboard, reported slight recovery for small business for the week of June 29.
As of June 29, 58% of businesses were fully open (compared to 53% the previous week), 23% were making normal sales for this time of year (compared to 19% the previous week) and 34% were back to normal staffing levels (compared to 32% the previous week), according to a news release.
"Things feel a little more normal as we are getting haircuts and eating out on restaurant patios, but behind the warm welcome back signs businesses continue to be very anxious about paying bills and keeping their businesses afloat," said Laura Jones, executive vice president at CFIB. "Only one in four is back to normal sales."
The Dashboard is a part of the #SmallBusinessEveryDay campaign that will run through fall. The campaign encourages consumers to support local Canadian businesses by posting special Canada Day challenges such as trying a new local restaurant or visiting local attractions, the news release said.
