George Brown College recently issued the following announcement.

How does higher education have to change to prepare learners for the future of work? George Brown College President Anne Sado outlined her strategy to the Canadian Club of Toronto. It includes strengthened ties to industry, flexible and blended learning options and increased personalization, among others.

“We have to be resilient. We have to be agile,” she told the crowd gathered at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on December 3, 2019, where the future of higher education was the topic of a panel discussion. Sado was joined by John Stackhouse, Senior Vice-President, Office of the CEO at RBC and Ross Romano, the provincial minister of colleges and universities.

During the discussion Sado cited George Brown’s Strategy 2022, Vision 2030 plan released earlier this year and highlighted six areas the college is focusing on for the future, including:

Personalized learning

Blended learning that provides online, in-person and hands-on education options

Strengthened partnerships with industry and community

Promoting lifelong learning

Developing a locally strong, globally connected approach

Building resilience to overcome future challenges

“We have to set the stage for lifelong learning. We have to make people understand that’s going to be a reality because of how things are changing so quickly,” Sado said. “I’m very focused on how we can make that easy, how we can support students and how we can stack credentials because people are going to be changing careers more often and they’ll need to upskill and reskill on a regular basis.”
