Diamond Schmitt Architects Inc. issued the following announcement on April 15.
Diamond Schmitt Architects has been selected for the fourth year in a row among Canada’s Greenest Employers. The editorial competition organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc. recognizes companies that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness.
“Diamond Schmitt Architects is an industry leader in designing environmentally sustainable buildings for our clients and we practice what we preach,” said Birgit Siber, Principal, Diamond Schmitt Architects.
Winning employers are evaluated on the following criteria: (1) unique environmental initiatives or programs they have developed; (2) whether they have been successful in reducing their own environmental footprint; (3) whether their employees are involved in these programs and contribute unique skills; and (4) whether their environmental initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity to attract new people to the organization.
The jury said Diamond Schmitt “helps champion the movement towards greener buildings, manages a longstanding and extensive waste diversion and recycling program, and employees are encouraged to leave the car at home when coming to work.”
Diamond Schmitt has completed 39 LEED certified projects, including 4 that are LEED Platinum. Eleven current projects are LEED Registered, seven of which are LEED V4, the framework for the next generation of green buildings. A number of these projects are also designed to meet the “Living Building Challenge” to be completely carbon neutral, or even net positive.
In addition to being among Canada’s Greenest Employers, Diamond Schmitt Architects this year has been named to Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Greater Toronto’s Top Employers, Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers as well as renewing its position in the Platinum Club of Canada’s Best Managed Employers.
Diamond Schmitt Architects has offices in Toronto, Vancouver and New York City. The firm’s extensive portfolio includes commercial, institutional and residential buildings, performing arts centres, and healthcare facilities. Among current projects is a ten-storey residential tower in London, Ontario and a highly sustainable facility at Red River College in Winnipeg, both targeting net zero carbon.
