Seneca College issued the following announcement on June 28.
Waheeda Ali is graduating from the Social Service Worker (SSW) diploma program.
She applied to Seneca once she was finally in a position to pursue the career she had been dreaming of for 34 years. As a student, Ali helped develop the Red Dot Project with three other students and one of her professors. The award-winning non-profit organization assists homeless women in Toronto by providing monthly menstrual supplies and personal care products. She was also a SMILE mentor for two semesters and took on an informal mentoring role with some of her peers.
With a 4.0 GPA, Ali was a member of the President’s Honour List throughout her time at Seneca. She is currently serving as the interim manager of support services for the Aids Committee of York Region.
