Toronto Community Housing Corporation issued the following announcement on June 20.
Fifty-eight deserving Toronto student leaders will take a step toward their future this evening, as they receive postsecondary scholarships from Toronto Community Housing and donor partners.
For the 12th consecutive year, through the generosity of donors, Toronto Community Housing has awarded scholarships toToronto youth, including many who live in Toronto Community Housing communities. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, financial eligibility, and leadership and involvement in promoting youth empowerment, diversity and community safety.
“Again this year, we have an incredible group of young people receiving scholarships. We believe in investing in our youth, and I believe that this year’s recipients will go on to make meaningful contributions to our society. I appreciate the generous support of our donors, who strongly believe in giving back to youth in our city,” said Kathy Milsom, President and CEO of Toronto Community Housing.
Milsom added that many donors offer mentoring support in addition to scholarship funds, such as relevant, targeted career advice to youth interested in their field of expertise.
The Investing in Our Diversity Scholarships provide financial assistance toward first-year tuition. To multiply the reach of the scholarships, Toronto Community Housing’s postsecondary institution partners match the scholarships for the students’ second year with some conditions, such as grades.
This year’s celebration evening is co-sponsored by The Daniels Corporation and Tridel Corporation.
