Diamond Schmitt Architects Inc. issued the following announcement on June 12.
This article in Building Design + Construction Magazine looks at how cultural centres are helping to enliven their communities and catalyze new development. ‘Exhibit A’ among many featured projects across North America is the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in St. Catharines, Ontario.
The Centre’s Executive Director Steve Solski is quoted as saying the downtown “had no life” before the four-stage complex designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects opened in 2015. “All of a sudden, there are people downtown all the time.” St. Catharines has issued $200 million in building permits since the opening and enhanced the public realm to make the area more conducive to pedestrians and businesses.
The story also features our design for the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts & Sciences (pictured), currently under construction in the ’50s pop star’s hometown of Lubbock, Texas. “Buddy Holly Hall has ignited a wildfire of redevelopment around it,” the article states. “We want this to be the center of Lubbock,” said Jack Diamond, Principal, Diamond Schmitt Architects.
