City of Toronto issued the following announcement on June 11.
Thousands turned out yesterday to the 27th annual Toronto Challenge, presented by MonsterMortgage.ca. Walkers and runners of all ages and abilities took part in the event to raise money for non-profit organizations that enhance the quality of life for seniors across the city.
"It's great to see so many continue to come out to support the Toronto Challenge year after year and by extension, some of the city's most vulnerable people," said Reg Paul, General Manager of the City of Toronto's Long-Term Care Homes & Services division. "The funds raised at this event really make a difference in people's lives; not just for those seniors that reside in City-run homes or access our services, but also in the lives of those connected to the 40 fundraising partner agencies involved here today."
"MonsterMortgage.ca has sponsored the Toronto Challenge for the past 13 years and is proud to support this incredible event for another year," said Nick Ametrano, Vice-President of MonsterMortgage.ca. "By participating, we honour seniors and say thanks for helping make Toronto the city it is today."
"The Toronto Challenge is a great event for everyone, encouraging people to get out, be active, stay healthy and have fun," said Puneet Khanna, Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Medical Pharmacies Group Limited. "The team at Medical Pharmacies is excited to participate."
The annual event included the MonsterMortgage.ca 5K run, the Medical Pharmacies 5K walk and the 1K fun walk.
The funds raised by community agencies at this event provide home support and independent living, transportation services, wellness programs, home library services and more.
The fastest male and female runners in nine age categories and the youngest and oldest participants in each event were recognized at an awards ceremony on Nathan Philips Square. Results from the event will be posted this week to the Toronto Challenge website at wwwtoronto.ca/challenge.
