City of Toronto recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Toronto invites residents and visitors to fashionably travel through time at three annual cosplay events at its Toronto History Museums this month.
The three events are:
• Suburban Steam: Steampunk Festival at Zion Schoolhouse, June 16
• Fab '40s Day at Todmorden Mills, June 17
• Gatsby Garden Party at Spadina Museum: Historic House and Gardens, June 23 and 24.
Entrance to Suburban Steam is free and tickets for Fab '40s Day and the Gatsby Garden Party are now on sale. Details and tickets are available at bit.ly/2H3RRUP.
"These interactive events will provide participants with a fun and stylish way to experience Toronto History Museums," said Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Chair of the City's Economic Development Committee.
Fab '40s Day at Todmorden Mills
Fab'40s Day will offer residents a lesson in dance moves from Lindy Hop Revolution, a talk about wartime style by Jonathan Walford of the Fashion History Museum, period recipes in the 1940s Cottage, croquet, a costume contest and live music from Bertie and The Gents.
Gatsby Garden Party at Spadina Museum
Participants can enjoy an afternoon of 1920s music, cocktails and dancing hosted by the Spadina Museum: Historic House and Gardens. Highlights will include short films, a 1920s dance lesson with Simon & Bonnie of Swing Toronto and Mostly Waltz Toronto, gramophone demonstrations with Keith the Gramophone Guy and a costume contest for guests dressed in 1920s era attire.
Suburban Steam: Steampunk Festival at Zion Schoolhouse
This free community festival will celebrate all things Steampunk. Visitors are encouraged to dress in Steampunk attire for this day of historical make-believe in and around the authentic 1910 Schoolhouse. Highlights of the day will include a dress-up area, questions and answers with Paul Aitken, screenwriter of CBC hit Murdoch Mysteries, crafts for all ages and live performances.
