Terrestrial Energy, Inc issued the following announcement on May 16.
Terrestrial Energy announced today that it has named Dr. John Luxat to its Advisory Board. Dr. Luxat is the Research Chair in Nuclear Safety Analysis at McMaster University and a leading expert in nuclear engineering with a specialty in safety analysis particularly of advanced reactor systems.
“The IMSR® is a leading Generation IV nuclear power plant design, and I am excited to be a part of the project,” Dr. Luxat said. “I am impressed by the progress Terrestrial Energy is making with its Integral Molten Salt Reactor. Molten salt Generation IV nuclear reactor designs have the potential to deliver excellence in nuclear safety and lower cost. These are features of great interest to me and to the nuclear power industry.”

Dr. Luxat is Senior NSERC/UNENE Industrial Research Chair in Nuclear Safety Analysis at the McMaster University Department of Engineering Physics in Hamilton, Ontario since 2004. A leading researcher in the field of nuclear science, he is a widely published expert in severe accident analysis and experimental testing and analytical modeling of nuclear thermal hydraulics. He has an established record of key technical contributions in the modeling and analysis of systems, components and physical processes in nuclear power plants.
Dr. Luxat has served on the board of directors of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and was the Manager of Nuclear Safety Technology for Ontario Power Generation. He has served as the president of the Canadian Nuclear Society. He currently serves as Chairman of the International Nuclear Energy Academy. Dr. Luxat received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Windsor and received his Masters and Bachelors of Electrical Engineering degrees from the University of Cape Town.
