Seneca College isssued the following announcement on May 8.
Seneca and IBM are continuing their long-standing history of collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding in establishing Ontario’s first IBM Skills Academy Hub.
The IBM Skills Academy is a new professional certification program which prepares students for IT careers in an accelerated format that builds local employment capability and aligns with international standards.
“Collaborating with IBM furthers our work in advancing Seneca graduates as experts in high-tech fields, allowing them to bring sought-after industry skills and knowledge to businesses both locally and around the world,” said Laurel Schollen, Seneca’s Vice-President Academic.
Seneca has multiple key responsibilities as the Academy Hub, including being a certified 'train-the-trainer' for faculty in technology tracks such as cyber security, business intelligence and cloud computing, while also serving as a regional Test Centre for IBM certification.
As part of the agreement, Seneca students will have 24/7 access to a virtual hands-on learning lab, The IBM Academic Cloud, enabling anytime, anywhere learning. The agreement has an initial term of three years, commencing on May 15, 2018.
Upon successful completion of the IBM Skills Academy program, students will earn IBM Digital Badges — industry recognized digital credentials noted for their technical achievement and contribution.
