This research report identifies barriers and concerns that students labelled with intellectual disabilities, and their parents and guardians, face in Ontario’s public elementary and secondary school system. It sets out some key insights into their experiences. The authors identified various factors that influence the quality of a student’s education. All of these elements play a key role in both the creation of ableist barriers and in their resolution.

The research was conducted as a collaboration involving Community Living Ontario, Western University, Brock University, ARCH Disability Law Centre, Brockville and District Association for Community Involvement, and Inclusive Education Canada. Hosted by disability studies, researchers will release key research findings to media. The campus context is the launch of a disability studies course titled "Rethinking Disability in Schooling" (Kathryn Underwood, professor, ECS). The event includes a panel presentation and student participation through questions.
