Toronto Community Housing Corporation issued the following announcement on April 18.

Toronto Community Housing has released this statement concerning the fire at 145 Strathmore Blvd. (Greenwood Towers).

"Toronto Community Housing is saddened by the tragic passing of a tenant as the result of the fire at 145 Strathmore Blvd. Our thoughts are with the individual's loved ones, friends, neighbours and the entire community, at this difficult time.

"We thank Toronto Fire Services for their quick response in extinguishing the fire. Our team members are onsite today to support tenants and assist with the response to the fire that occurred in the building last night.

"The fire was contained within one unit on the 13th floor. No households have been displaced by the fire, and evacuations were not required. The building's fire alarm and life safety systems were all working at the time of the fire.

"Toronto Community Housing is fully cooperating with the investigation being led by Toronto Fire Services and the Ontario Fire Marshal.

Toronto Community Housing takes the safety of our tenants very seriously. Life safety and, in particular, fire safety is top priority for us. We have enhanced our proactive fire life safety program in all our buildings, and in cooperation with Toronto Fire Services we will be providing additional fire safety awareness outreach to all tenants at Greenwood Towers in the coming weeks.
