PowerStream, Inc. issued the following announcement on April 4.

Alectra Utilities’Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) team presented a cheque totalling $119,051 on Thursday, March 29, 2018, following the completion of a recent project to replace compressors at the company’s facility on Royal Group Crescent in Woodbridge.

The compressor replacement project, funded through the Save on Energy Retrofit Program, will result in a demand savings of 164.8 kilowatts (kW), or an energy savings of 1,400,212.2 kilowatt-hours (kWh), equal to approximately five per cent of the company’s annual power consumption or “load”.

Energi Fenestration Solutions–Woodbridge Extrusion is a PVC extrusion plant that supplies the North American window and door industry across North America. Operating 24/7, the facility had been utilizing five fixed speed air compressors that were in production for over 20 years. Alectra Utilities’ CDM team was able to identify energy savings associated with the replacement of the old air compressors with two new compressors: one 150 horsepower (HP) L110 fixed speed and one 180 horsepower (HP) L132 variable frequency drive. The L110 is now used to meet the fixed base load air demand and the L132 is used to satisfy the balance of the variable air demand.

Participating businesses have achieved reduced operating costs and increased efficiencies,” explained Raegan Bond, VP, Conservation & Demand Management at Alectra Utilities. “This program offers financial incentives for upgrades including lighting retrofits, HVAC redesign, chiller replacements, variable speed drives, equipment upgrades, building envelope efficiency improvements, and many more.”

“By working with the Conservation and Demand Management support team at Alectra Utilities, we now have a new variable speed compressor that responds to the compressed air demand in the plant, which varies with plant production demand.” stated Arcadie (Arpi) Antal, Maintenance Manager at Energi Fenestration Solutions, “This compressor solution offers high efficiency whether we run all of our lines or a portion of them. Because of this, we are on track to save $158,224 in energy costs annually with improved process and stability, as well as significant noise reduction.”
