Ryerson University issued the following announcement on March 29.
Ryerson University welcomes the provincial government 2018 budget and its recognition of the important role that talent plays in developing Ontario’s economic future.
Ryerson University has long championed providing our students with the skills, talent, and experiences that will enable students to not only succeed but to thrive in the new economy.
Through investments made in the 2018 provincial budget, the government is empowering universities like Ryerson to expand their efforts in work integrated learning, transitions to employment, and further developing STEM programming.
Ryerson University is encouraged by the announced $32 million in funding to the university sector to support quality programs and student outcomes.
This budget confirmed the previously announced initiative to improve the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), which is designed to remove barriers to access so all students have the opportunity to reach their potential regardless of financial means.
“Investing in students is a critical step in generating and nurturing the talent that will drive the Ontario economy and we applaud the investments made this year in the provincial budget,” said Mohamed Lachemi, Ryerson president and vice-chancellor. “Ryerson University looks forward to working with the Ontario government to ensure the ongoing provision of quality education while increasing the range of services we provide our students.”
