EllisDon Corporation issued the following announcement on March 7.
On Friday, March 2, 2018, the Ontario General Contractors Association (OCGA) honoured EllisDon’s Corporate Director of Occupational Health and Safety, Dan Fleming, with the Doug Chalmers Award for Safety. During the COR™ Open House/OGCA Leadership Conference, Dan was recognized for contributions he has made to the advancement of occupational health and safety in the construction industry.
“It’s a privilege and honour to be recognized by the OGCA and our members to receive this award,” said Dan Fleming.
Dan demonstrates his passion and ongoing commitment to health and safety through his involvement on numerous committees and initiatives. Shortly after joining EllisDon as Corporate Director of Occupational Health and Safety five years ago, he helped establish the OGCA Safety Committee in partnership with other industry leaders including Aecon, PCL, Walsh, and Aberichi. Through a collaborative effort by all members, the committee developed The OGCA Safety Pass – an online software created to streamline health and safety training and orientation, and provide guidelines, best practices and support for subcontractors
“This has been a team effort over the past year,” said Dan. “With the collaborative support of safety professionals on the OGCA Safety Committee we are able to provide consistent best practices and resources to our member general contractors and sub-contractors.”
In addition to his work on the OGCA Safety Committee, he is also a representative for the OGCA on the Provincial Labour Management Health and Safety Committee. Dan actively supports the League of Champions and MySafeWork in an effort to promote a safety culture and safety awareness in the industry. His commitment extends beyond his corporate mandate as he also serves as Director of the EllisDon Charity Hockey Tournament in support of the Threads of Life Foundation; a charity dedicated to providing support to families who have been affected by workplace fatalities, injuries, and occupational diseases.
Through his contributions and exemplary leadership, Dan has been instrumental in improving health and safety standards and practices within EllisDon and across the construction industry.
“At the end of the day it is up to us, the construction industry, to recognize that we need to change and that we are in the best position to implement that change,” Dan said.
