After a 10-month search for a president and CEO, William Osler Health System (Osler) recently named Dr. Brendan Carr to the position.
Osler announced that Carr, who is president and CEO of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, will start in his new post in August, with interim President and CEO Joanne Flewwelling remaining until Carr’s arrival, according to a news announcement.
“We were so fortunate to have had a strong, competent leader like Joanne step up and take on the important role of interim President and CEO while the Board conducted its search,” Vanita Varma, Osler’s board of directors chair, said in the company’s statement.
Carr, an emergency department and family physician, has held his leadership role with Vancouver Island Health since 2013. He is a Certified Physician Executive and Certified Healthcare Executive and has completed a research fellowship with the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation. He received his medical degree from Dalhousie University in 1998 and completed a medical residency at the University of Ottawa in emergency and family medicine, according to the release. He has an MBA from Dalhousie, as well as an undergraduate degree.
“I’m looking forward to joining such a dynamic, forward-thinking organization that is leading innovation and partnerships in this province and beyond,” Carr said in the announcement.
