President’s Choice Bank has recently partnered with Google to launch Android Pay in Canada, making it one of the first financial institutions in the country to offer the service.
Android Pay is available in all Loblaw corporate and franchise grocery stores and at Shoppers Drug Mart and offers customers a way to pay using their mobile devices.
President’s Choice Bank, which is a subsidiary of Loblaw Companies Limited, said the service allows customers to use their Android phones to make purchases in stores and with apps through their PC Financial MasterCard.
Pali Bhat, vice president of payments at Google, said in a press release Canadian shoppers will be able to use Android Pay immediately at locations throughout the country.
“We’re excited to bring the simplicity and security of mobile payments to Android users in Canada,” Bhat said. “Starting today, Canadian shoppers will be able to use Android Pay at hundreds of thousands of contactless payment terminals across Canada.”
The company said the service offers a secure way to use a card with an app or in a store without having to carry a traditional card. A customer receives a “virtual account number” to use instead of a card.
Loblaw Companies Limited is one of Canada’s largest retailers with over 2,300 corporate, franchised and associate-owned locations.
