One of the big things that the internet is doing in business involves bringing together qualified service professionals and customer audiences in an efficient way.
Bidvine is a company helping those who are looking for services to ditch the Yellow Pages and connect efficiently with service providers through an online platform.
At Bidvine, users can find house cleaners, painters, locksmiths, plumbers and even wedding photographers or caterers. The intuitive web platform uses visuals to orient those who are searching.
“Our founding team has experience building and scaling marketplaces,” Bidvine’s founder Dan Stuart told Toronto Business Daily. “We've focused on unit economics and building a sustainable marketplace with economics that work for the different stakeholder groups using the platform. We didn't get it perfect from the beginning, but we've learned and adapted. It's not just about getting bid on one metric and hoping that's enough.”
Bidvine has been in business since early 2015, Stuart said.
“My partner Sohrab and I had founded and exited a business together previously, so the chemistry was there,” Stuart said. “We were actually accepted into Techstars London '14 before we had even incorporated, so this was a great kick-start to help us meet a lot of people, add more gas to the fire and really help us push hard to and through launch.
Stuart also mentioned a Waterloo development shop called Boltmade that he said played a significant role.
“They were a big help early on,” Stuart said.
While the company is officially headquartered in London, Stuart said Bidvine gets a lot out of having much of its professional workforce based in Ontario.
“We're here because it's the right place for us to build our product, and an important part of our future roadmap for launching new markets,” Stuart said. “We're also here because I'm based here, so I'm biased on this being the right place for our development team. We've found good young technical staff with the right attitude and who are core to our growth. We're here to stay.”
In the future, Stuart hopes to build new features and functionality into the Bidvine platform. He cited a move toward better return on investment for professionals, as well as greater choice and speedier use for customers.
“We plan to do this through technology by building smarter systems,” Stuart said. “In the not too distant future, we'll look at opening new geographies as well.”
